X-factor is on so I’m sitting here with my earplugs in browsing the net between checking up on a friends malfunctioning laptop.
Typing this on our own laptop so being a proper geek surrounded by laptops!
With some of the proceeds of selling the (motor)bike I bought a new PC! First one in a wee while so its been quite a leap in performance.
Lorraine inherits the water cooled beastie for email and business stuff!
My new one was from Cyberpower – for those that want to know the details its a
E8500 (3.16 GHz) CPU mildly (for now) overclocked to 3.33 GHz
Geforce 9600GT (512MB)
Antec 900 Gaming Case (lots of big slow fans and plenty of room for
160GB + 190GB + 250GB Hard Drives
All hooked up to a 19″ and 17″ monitor.
Lorraine gets an increase from 1GHz to 2GHz and 2GB memory.
What to do with the old one – media server for the house perhaps…
After completing Half Life 2: Episode II I went to see what else got installed when I bought the Half-Life 2: The Orange Box (PC DVD).
Portal is by far the most imaginative game I have played in a long time – with a portal gun you fire it at a wall/ceiling/floor and then do the same again at a wall/ceiling/floor and the two points are then joined as a portal. So fire it in the ceiling and then in the wall and when you walk through the wall portal you fall out of the hole in the ceiling.
There are some fantastic puzzles in it that require a mix of lateral thinking and quick reactions. No baddies to shoot – the only shooting that happens is by sentry guns which you have to disable/knock over.
The tune you get at the end is sung by the computerised voice that guides you all the way through the rest of the game. It is really melodic and weird but I can’t stop listening to it…
No wonder it takes me so long to update stuff on the PC when I have to compete with this big beast getting in the way.
Still, he is quite cute and we don’t mind really.
Here he is with our new halloween kitten.
Anyway – all the pics are online now at blmweb gallery
Sitting here in the back garden writing a quick few words on the wireless laptop while enjoying the fantastic weather today.
Tennis IBM live scoreboard is on and I’m streaming the footie from the beeb.

I use openoffice at home as it is a free way of getting all the functionality of MS Office and more. They are currently running a campaign to get people to switch from pirated copies of MS office so I thought I would do my bit by posting a link to their article.
So click the piccie below to read more.

We have just moved up from 512Kbps to 2Mbps with Freedom2surf and it is making quite a difference. I know its not 10Mbps like some of my telewest/ntl connected chums, but its the best we can get !!!!
