TV cold turkey

Instead of giving up the booze for the new year this time we are considering a TV free month. Now that Strictly and The Apprentice are over there’s nothing much exciting on anyway!

Can’t get away with TV on iPhone or PC or laptop either…

Probably find myself listening to radio 4 even more:)

Wow – its all gone quiet

Hey wow – since we’ve ended our self-imposed TV embargo I’ve not been posting so much – is it because we’re watching endless hours of TV – no – well mostly…

As with our Heroes catch up the previous weekend we managed to get through 4 episodes of Lost and it actually gets quite exciting again. Some old sub-stories are revisited and some new ones are introduced. Desmond (“alright brother”) has more to say and adds an additional twist!

Other than this we’ve still not watched any “live” TV for the sake of it.

Still reading and PCing and playing with gadgets (more on this later…)

Lorna got her scan on Friday as we are due to be Uncle Bruce and Auntie Lorraine at the end of August – I’ll see about posting a pic here with Lorna and Steven’s permission.

That’s all for now!

27->28 Tuesday and Wednesday

That’s it – the last two days are over and we’ve survived the No TV regime for the whole of February.

There was no desire to stay up until midnight and watch stuff, or to get up and watch breakfast TV for the first time in a month which was good.

Saw Hot Fuzz with the Paul’s last night which was most enjoyable – if a bit gross at times. In fact it was the funniest thing I’d seen in a long time.

I’ve got some Top Gears to catch up on tonight while Lorraine is working so that’ll be the first ‘TV’ – non DVD movie stuff since January!

22->26 – Thursday->Monday

television.gifOut on Thursday and Saturday evenings so no problems there :) Lorraine was working on Saturday and it was a reasonable day so I went and got muddy on the bicycle. Heading out to Colinton Dell then up and over the bridge and back via Craiglockhart/Gorgie. Needed to give the bike a good wash and lube so that took up my afternoon.

Sunday Lorraine was working but I strummed guitar, read, cleaned the loos, somehow managed to fill my day until she came home and we had a quiet night in.

Only a couple of days to go before we can start catching up on all the stuff we’ve saved – haven’t checked any of it though so I hope I set it all properly or we’ll have endless hours of bid up TV or QVC recorded…

Days 19->21 – Monday->Wednesday

television.gifNot entirely sure what I’ve done this week instead of watching TV. I did some bicycle maintenance on Wednesday. Consisting of changing brake blocks on the front and adjusting brakes front and rear. Also trued the wheels which is a zen like experience. Getting closer and closer to perfection with lots of tiny adjustments. Quite enjoyable in a strange way.

Only 6 days of no TV to go!!! We’ve been asked what happens come March. Not entirely sure yet. Have vowed to not just switch on the box and watch whats on. Have brekkie/dinner at the table. Only watch what we have decided to watch rather than “just whatever’s on”. We’ve a few things to catch up on too…

Wow – Watching TV can seriously damage your child's health!

television.gifNoticed this article on the Scotsman Website today. (you might have to register a free account to view the whole article)

It tells of the perils of plonking junior down in front of the TV for hours on end. Serious health issues, not least the couch potato factor!

Days 14->18 – Wednesday -> Sunday

television.gifOver half way through our no TV month and still going strong. (Lorraine showing signs of weakness…)
Our Amazon DVD “American Beauty” arrived so we were allowed to watch it. Can’t believe I had never seen it in all these years. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Valentines day was quiet with Lorraine working but we made up for it by going out on Friday to Dusit in Thistle Street. Fantastic food if a wee bit noisy – suppose it was a Friday night though.

Went for a bike ride down to the Shore at Leith on Saturday – First time in ages for Lorraine. She did really well though. I’ve bought a sturdy set of wheels that are shod with offroad tyres so I can keep road tyres for the daily commute. Ran with the offroad stuff on Saturday to check them out and bed them in. They feel like they are up to the job. Need to try them in anger next!

Saturday night was spent developing stuff for therapies united – nothing obvious as its all reporting for Lorraine’s use…

Garden got a bit of a going over on Sunday along with a trip to B+Q for bits and pieces. Re-Linseed Oiled the garden furniture – how domesticated…
Sitting here writing this listening to Radio 4 instead of watching the tube. PC has recorded 3rd week of Top Gear though…

Days 9->13, Friday ->Tuesday

television.gifIts amazing how often we have gone out this month – I’m sure it’s not more than normal but it’s much more noticable for some reason.

Linda’s birthday on Friday straight after work (for me) meant an evening in Izzi (annoying website BTW) on Lothian Road followed by some beers in Henricks - well OJ as we are still off the booze this year!

Saturday didn’t seem to do much as Lorraine tidied up my sealant botch in the ensuite. I made pizza for tea – including the pizza base!

Sunday was cleaning and then out to Mum’s for tea – she even switched the rugby off when we got there so we wouldn’t be tempted!

Monday I spent the evening on the PC (is this my replacement for TV?) while Lorraine made a cushion cover (how domesticated!)

Days 6/7/8 – Tues->Thurs

television.gifBeen doing quite a bit of work on Lorraine’s website TherapiesUnited so that has filled the void that TV has left! For Perl gurus out there can you remember the syntax for sorting an array by two seperate elements – one text and one numeric. I’ll tell you if you ask nicely…

Reading a bit more too – Terry Pratchett at the moment.
