Evening's entertainment

Out with chums for some food at a Sudanese Restaurant (Nile Valley) which was a first for us! Then off to the George Square Theatre to see Loud and Proud Choir doing some crimbo numbers.

Festival at last

Other than an outdoor performance of Shakespeare’s ‘As you like it’ a couple of weeks back, my festival going has been a bit non existant this year…

So today it was off to the Foodie Festival for some fine food – and meeting up with Nicci Kitchin before seeing brother Tom doing a cooking demo. Then off to see Pippa Evans followed by John Bishop at the Pleasance.

Then to top it all it was a fine bag if chip on the way home from the bus stop :)

Amazing Souffle

Great meal out last night with chums at Hotel du Vin. Some really different stuff on the menu and 5 of us all enjoyed it!

Here’s Lorraine Souffle.

Gunshots ring out across Edinburgh

Well in the Edinburgh Festival Theatre as we watched Blood Brothers anyway…

Didn’t have a clue what to expect – had heard of it but somehow avoided knowing the story until last night. Was tired after a long week at work and then a decent meal at B’est but the action kept us awake – including live gunshots!

That was our valentines treat to ourselves so going to catch up on some Lost this evening.

Looking forward to a few nights away this week – for birthday and business reasons :)

Yum

Struggling to find somewhere to pop in for a warming cup of hot chocolate and a snack lunch that wasn’t full of bored/irate/suicidal shopper on Saturday mid-afternoon we headed down Broughton Street.

Ended up in a wee place called Pani Solinska that is a Polish (can’t you guess?) restaurant. Freshly prepared food and friendly service topped us up just as energies were flagging.

Worth dropping in if you are in need of a bit of grub – or even a Polish beer!

I'm turning Australian

Not really, but after 3 Barbecues in 3 days maybe I should.

Friday night it was 2 or 3 chums for lots of home made stuff from masterchef Lorraine, including meat and veggie burgers, salsa, hummous, salad, and chutney.

Then Satuday is was off to Craigs for a few hours before before running away to babysitting duties. Some great meat products there courtesy of Angus and expertly cooked by the birthday boy himself.

The Sunday we had some veggie burgers and some burgers that got defrosted on Friday but not cooked to use up so out with the Barbie again!

Veg for the rest of the week methinks as I’ve had my fill of meat!

Paris

Just back from a fantastic, if at some stages frantic, weekend in Paris.

As if you weren’t aware dear reader, that I have been doing the website for Mark Beaumont and his attempt to smash the World Record for cycling round the world.

So off to Paris Lorraine and I headed to meat up with Mark at the launch on Sunday morning. Lots of bits and pieces needed done before he left so some of the time was spend hammering away on various laptops before the Sunday a.m. deadline.

He got off fine though – a few technical issues still getting ironed out on route but he’s off and cycling which is the important bit.

We did get to enjoy some great meals and chat with the team in Paris and some site-seeing and fantastic food/wine/coffee in various places throughout Paris too.

Please sponsor Mark’s charities through his website if you get the chance, or at least follow his trip.

I’ll get some pictures here and in the pedalling around gallery ASAP. (I probably always say that and never get round to it…)

Happy Birthday Mum

Just a quick post to say happy birthday mum. That’s why we all went to the Flamenco and then on to The New Bell for food afterwards. Yum.

Rhod Gilbert

Works night out last night to Rhod Gilbert’s 1984 at the Pleasance Courtyard Cellar.
Unknown to all of us, but he performed a relaxed and funny show in front of a capacity crowd in the cellar (about 80 folk….)
Definitely recommend him for a harmless, sometimes rambling story of why his 1984 was a terrible year.

Food in Pizza Express before was okay along with a beer in Bannermans afterwards.

More Festival Stuff

Great food in a place called Blonde followed by a most amusing show called NewsRevue 24/7. Basically a mix of topical news related comedy sketches and musical numbers performed at a frenetic pace. Was most amusing if a bit close to the bone sometimes. See if you can make up your own punchline to this one “How many Brazilian electicians does it take to change a light bulb?”….

Few beers afterwards in (or rather, sitting outside) the human be-in. Most enjoyable.
