Been experimenting with a plugin for wordpress that shows a much more cut down version of my blog on mobile phones.

So if you want to use it then point your browser at mobile.blmweb.com for the mobile version (no really???) or blog.blmweb.com (or blmweb.com or www.blmweb.com) for the non-mobile version.

My techie step-bro-in-law (James) has a job for New Scientist and has produced a video about some cool tech that creates an entire 3d cityscape from photos on flickr. You can watch the vid and listen to James’ voice over at the link below.

For doing a bit of graphic stuff I bought myself a new bit of kit.

Basically it means I can draw with a pen on a tablet in a much more natural way than using a mouse. Hopefully have some results to show in a week or so.

Sounds too good to be true? Check out the times online article. Basically harnessing the power of footfall at Victoria tube station to drive mini turbines to store a charge the could then be used for whatever.

The interesting point is at the end which mentions the possibility of powering your ipod (other mp3 players are available) by the motion of your walking. Cool!

Cool web search

I had the need to do a bit of mind mapping the other day and was reminded of a cool visual search engine called KartOO.

Rather than a boring list of result like you get from Google, it supplies a pretty picture with most relevant links in the middle and similar subject scattered about. Words that link the results also appear and hovering over them shows which links relate to which words. Clicking a word adds it to the search

Go on, have a go, with something like

Awesome PC case Mods

I don’t claim to be a PC case modder other than having to cut a hole in the top of my case for the radiator for my water-cooled PC
If you want to be amazed at what people will do then check out this WMD case which is totally amazing. The effort that has gone into it is huge. This guy (I assume) obviously has far too much time on his hands – and a complete machine shop.

Thought I had had my Nokia 6100 long enough so I managed to get myself a new Motorola V3 ‘RAZR’ in sexy black! Take a while getting used to the different operating system compared to the Nokias I’ve had for years. Very impressed with it so far though.

And

Also have a new line in the house to avoid me answering Feel Good Therapies calls. Not just another line though, this is an official BT voip type installation through broadband voice. Will inform the relevant people of the number when we get around to it

With Google Earth – Products you can get a reasonably details picture of many places in the world – and it will even let you tilt the camera down to ground level. Extremely cool – only a matter of time before it will have a live feed…

On a similar subject is Celestia which takes a broader view and lets you fly through the universe in 3d

I know the ideal toy for mountain biking or any other cool sport you want to tape for posterity.
Portable VCR to do the recording
and then a
Helmet Cam
to record you hurtling down the hills at Glentress

Then see what can be done here
and for mountain bikers specifically

Just gaffer tape the camera anywhere and bung the recorder in a well padded backpack
and away ya go!
