Somewhere in England…

Not entirely sure where we were on the weekend – train down to Crewe followed by a lift from Jane to her lovely house somewhere near Nantwich. Out in the coutry though so I could say which direction we were from Nantwich!

We had a great time being well fed and watered while Lorraine and Jane talked shop – they met at a Karuna Reiki course in Glastonbury.

Had to fight for our seats on the way down with no reservations showing up on the backs of seats and everybody sitting in someone else’s reserved seats. The train looked like it was 2 carriages short too. Still, Lorraine shuffled the folks out of our seats, who then shuffled the squatters out of their seats – it seemed to end there though – I had visions of the whole carriage trying to shuffle between seats.

Bon Voyage and good luck Jane on your house selling and New Zealand emigration!

Cool web search

I had the need to do a bit of mind mapping the other day and was reminded of a cool visual search engine called KartOO.

Rather than a boring list of result like you get from Google, it supplies a pretty picture with most relevant links in the middle and similar subject scattered about. Words that link the results also appear and hovering over them shows which links relate to which words. Clicking a word adds it to the search

Go on, have a go, with something like

mark beaumont cycle

and see what it draws.

Channel Dave

Bizarre name for a Freeview TV channel but there ya go.

Lots of quality programs like errrr, Top Gear, and Top Gear, and a bit more Top Gear.

Only joking, it’s not quite that bad, well it probably is. Occasional QI, Whose Line is it Anyway, and other mainstream stuff.

Funnier than Cats in Sinks  and almost as odd as Stuff on my Cat

Now just need to get Siouxsie and Sam to pose for some pictures….

Another lorry crash story

Chicken lorry crash causes chaos

Chickens being rounded up

A specialist team has been brought in to catch the chickens

Much of central Scotland was brought to a standstill this morning after a lorry containing 3,000 chickens crashed on the A80, leaving birds running loose. The lorry jack-knifed on the southbound carriageway, near Haggs, at 0430 BST, leaving the 45-year-old driver with serious back injuries.

Central Scotland Police said about 400 chickens were killed in the incident.

The road, which serves as a main route to Glasgow, Stirling, Perth and Dundee, was reopened by police at 1245 BST.

Ch Insp Donald McMillan said: “Around 400 chicken carcasses have been cleared from the scene and the road has now re-opened.

“A team from Bear Scotland have also been in attendance to ensure the road is clear of debris.

“This is a main strategic route for the area and the incident this morning did cause a lot of disruption but we expect traffic will be back to normal within half an hour.”

The road closure caused chaos for motorists across the Forth Valley, with severe tailbacks on the M9 northbound Kinnaird to Pirnhall route.

Loose chickens at the accident scene

The crash caused chaos across the central belt

In the hours following the crash, vets and a specialist team from Noble Foods in Glenrothes were at the scene to help catch the birds, many of whom were running about the road.

It is understood the birds will be taken to the company’s hen processing plant in Gainsborough.

Motorist Tony Collins, from Cumbernauld, described the scene as commuters tried to make their way to work during the morning rush hour.

He said: “There are boxes all over the carriageway and there were still a few chickens running around the embankment.”

The Scottish SPCA said it had concerns for the welfare of the chickens.

Spokeswoman Doreen Graham said many of them could be in shock and may die.

Windmills…

Here’s a question or two for you dear reader.

Q. What do you get from a dairy farm?
A. Dairy products of course

Q. What do you get from a fruit farm?
A. Fruit naturally

So why the heck does a bunch of windmills producing electricity get called a wind farm. It doesn’t grow or produce wind after all.

I’m guessing it’s because it harvests wind but it just conjures up images of a bunch of windmills producing wind to me…
