What does it all mean

I’m on a training course this week and here are just two extracts from the workbooks.

Expressing grouped aggregates with derived tables allows ASE to “push down” the group predicates

ASE does NOT guarantee repeatable reads on non-deterministic, non-materialized (virtual) computed columns

I should hopefully be able to explain what they mean….

Sunrise/Sunset in Edinburgh

Since I’m cycling to work these days I’m very conscious of when its light and dark outside. (I’ve got lights obviously though).
So I found a few websites that did sunset/sunrise times for a specific date/location. Made me wonder how it all worked so I managed to find an Excel Spreadsheet/Visual Basic version to get at the raw calculations (I’m not an astronomer!)

The latest Work in Progress result can be found here.

Very limitted at the moment but might make it a bit more interactive.

Bicycle Tools!

My obsession with bicycle tools is growing – not sure what I ‘really need’ next though.

I’ve got the following at the moment.

  • Park Tools – Crank Puller CCP-2
  • Shimano Cartridge Bottom Bracket Tool UN74
  • Park Tools – Adjustable Wrench PAW-12
  • Park Tools – Spoke Wrench Multiple Size SW-7
  • Am-tech Torque Wrench (3/8″) and set of Allen Key, Screwdriver bits
  • 3/8″ to 1/2″ and vice versa set of Socket Converters so I can use the Torque Wrench with my normal socket set
  • Ice-Toolz Chain Whip (ask if you need to know what a chain whip is…)
  • Park Tools – Freewheel Cassette Removal tool
  • Park Tools – Track Pump
  • Revolution Tune-up Workstand

The best thing in there is the Workstand. It really makes life so easy – from changing a wheel, lubing the chain, cleaning the bike, truing a wheel, it means you can do it with the bike 4 foot off the ground held securely. Buy one if you’ve got the space and like to ‘tinker’

Halloween sculptures

Well not exactly sculptures, more sort of carvings I guess.

Lorraine insisted we carve some lanterns this year so after much work here are our efforts.

Mine is the scary face one by the way. As if you couldn’t guess Lu would do a pussycat…
