Just noticed that we will be in the You Ess of Ay when the new season of Lost starts. Wonder if we can find time to catch the first episode

We’re getting to old for this. A day of cycling followed by a chinese – great that we can justify it after the cycling
– followed by getting a taxi into town at quarter to eleven! Nearly didn’t go because we were both a bit bushed.
Was well worth it though. Craig Hill compered 3 comedians at The World Stands Up starting at midnight. Don’t think it was the delirium of us needing sleep but all three were hilarious. Kitty Flanagan from Oz, Mitch Benn from the UK and Steve McGrew from the US had a small audience in stitches. Mitch was musical comedian – tunes about hating James Blunt and how everyone sounds like Coldplay. Burt Chewbacharach too LOL.
The other two I would go and see again if they come back. Kitty’s name rings a bell – maybe I’ve seen her on something before, or had fliers pushed into my hand for her show – anyway, she was excellent. Steve McGrew telling stories about his dog being sick, or him being sick, pretty gross at points but funny – the denver accent, whatever that may be sort of adds to the humour.
Thats it for the year though.
Perhaps Edinburgh will be back to some sort of normallity, a few less tourists attempting suicide wandering across the roads, hotel prices back to normal, taxi fares just pricey instead of extortionate, pub opening hours reduced to 1am instead of 3/4/5am. Lorraine thinks Edinburgh always feels a bit flat for the next week or so. Lets see if its true.

Hmmmm, we’ve been pondering our electricity usage since we appear to have used a vast proportion more units per day average over the past quarter than in any previous quarter. Is our meter on the blink or have we genuinely been overdoing it?
We are talking of a 4 fold increase in usage here! – ie worst case of 7 units per day previously has gone up to about 27 units per day for the last period.
So we’ve started keeping a daily reading and a few notes of usage to see if there is anything odd going on.
10 units per day over the past couple of days…
This has lead me to check out a few statistics and to try and gather info on what uses how much.
Games Consoles are relatively cheap if left plugged in but not on.
This great page at Energy Star is pretty neat to calculate PC Power usage.
The ozzies have got a great government page about white goods.
I’ll try to update here as I get more info

Dunno, she was funny but not as funny as I had hoped. Maybe because she didn’t do many of her characters from Chewin’ the Fat – of which I’m a fan.
Maybe we’ve been spoilt by all the great international comedy available that when it comes to one of our own she seemed a bit old-fashioned or something.
The crowd was definitly of an older average than I’ve seen at other events – maybe this is a reflection of her appeal?
Strangely enough it was in the same venue that our chums Luke and Linda had their wedding reception!

One-man Star Wars Trilogy does exactly what it says on the tin. Charlie Ross whizzes through the original 3 Star Wars movies in about an hour. A must for Star Wars fans as you will marvel out how he can bring such a vast cast of characters, vehicles, droids, aliens, and spaceships together. Wait til you see Jabba the Hutt, better than any CGI ![]()
Luke, Paul and I laughed throughout the performance and chatted about it when we came out like seeing Star Wars for the first time.
It might be sold out, dear reader, but we managed to get press tickets that get re-allocated to general public 15-30 mins before the show starts.
Thanks Linda for the tip!

Nearly got to see Finding Marina in the Botanic Gardens for Mum’s birthday but unfortunately it absolutely tipped down so it was cancelled (the show, not mum’s birthday!)
We still had a very nice meal at the Olive Branch in Broughton Street anyway and then ended up back at ours for some wine and nibbles and a good old chat.
